The lack of clean water has lead to a cholera outbreak at Dadaab. So far, there are 60 confirmed cases and 1 death, UNHCR reported today. A cholera outbreak during rainy season in world's the largest refugee camp is a huge disaster in the making.
No one is seriously contemplating a military intervention in Syria a la Libya. But if the Arab League asks the Security Council to take up the Syria situation, that could very likely pave the way for the Council to impose sanctions on top regime officials and possibly refer the situation to the ICC These days, that is how regimes fall. Just ask Mr. Gbagbo or Saif al Islam.
The international response to this attack is starting to take shape. The UN Refugee Agency, which administers the Yida camp where the bombing occurred, condemned the attack. As did the White House, which sent around a statement last night. The activist community is also piling on.
Some disturbing developments along the frontier of the world's newest country, the Republic of South Sudan. It would appear that the Sudanese airforce violated south Sudan's airspace and bombed a refugee camp near the border.
