Vladimir Putin and President Obama are meeting today on the margins of the G-8 summit for some high politics negotiations on Syria. As they meet, it is worth remembering the sheer humanitarian toll that this conflict has taken. The figures are getting worse by the day. There are more refugees, more IDPs, more people killed. The UN expects that about half of the entire population will need assistance by year’s end.
This map, from the US State Department, shows the scale of this humanitarian crisis.
