The violence in the Central African Republic that has erupted over the past few weeks is horrific and threatens to plunge the country into brutal ethnic conflict. The international community is finally starting to pay attention to this crisis in a serious way. The newfound attention on CAR is helpful, and may prevent a further descent into violence.
But I can’t help but think that there is one category of people in CAR who are still being left behind: refugees who fled from Congo to the relative stability of CAR. This video from the UN Refugee Agency offers an excruciating glimpse into the hardships they are facing. This is a nearly totally ignored population.
