(Charlotte, NC) About three weeks after the 2008 Presidential elections in the USA I found myself in Adis Ababa, Ethiopia. I was standing outside UNICEF’s headquarters where a street vendor approached me to show off his wares: a box of bootlegged DVDs of Barack Obama’s 2008 Democratic National Convention acceptance speech.
It is hard to imagine that now-President Obama’s speech tonight will be similarly received, but you never know. I would imagine that it will very focus on domestic issues and the economy but if he offers hints of what a second term foreign policy priorities might be, we’ll be sure to evaluate. In the meantime, it is great to see PEPfAR get the bi-partisan love it deserves down here in Charlotte.
Stay tuned tonight at 10PM EST for President Obama’s speech.
