Last night, a questioner asked the candidates if they would wait for a hypothetical Security Council resolution to come to Israel’s aid after a hypothetical Iranian strike against Israel.
At one point McCain refers to a “League of Democracies” that might be able to do more than the Security Council on the Iran issue. But for the record, it is a “league of democracies” of sorts that is already taking the lead on the Iran nuclear issue. The EU-3 (France, the UK and Germany) have been the lead negotiators on the Iran nuclear issue, and since the United States does not have diplomatic ties to Iran, it is the body to which the United States has outsourced its diplomacy on the Iran nuclear issue.
