$2.4 Billion Raised for Syria Humanitarian Relief

It is still only one third of the target of $6.5 billion, but it’s a start. “Donors at a conference in Kuwait today pledged more than $2.4 billion in response to appeals by United Nations officials for urgent funds to assist millions of people inside Syria and in neighbouring countries affected by the conflict that has raged for nearly three years…An estimated 9.3 million people in Syria, many of them stranded in hard-to-reach and besieged areas, urgently need help, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Nearly half of them are children, who do not have adequate access to health care or education. (UN News Center http://bit.ly/1fzLLg0)

Another Horrific Gang Rape in India

The problem continues. “A 51-year-old Danish woman said she had been gang-raped at knifepoint by seven or eight men in central New Delhi after she approached them to ask for directions to her hotel, the Delhi police reported on Wednesday. Late Wednesday night, the police announced the arrest of two men they described as ‘vagabonds’ living at the capital’s railway station, and said they had property stolen from the tourist, including a glasses case, an iPod and earplugs.” (NYT http://nyti.ms/1d7Z6YA)
